Cabbage Manchurian Recipe

Cabbage Manchurian is a popular Indo-Chinese dish made with crispy fried cabbage balls tossed in a spicy, tangy sauce. Here's a recipe to make it at home:

Ingredients for Cabbage Balls:

  • 2 cups shredded cabbage
  • 1/2 cup gram flour (besan)
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour (maida)
  • 1/2 tsp ginger paste
  • 1/2 tsp garlic paste
  • 1/4 tsp red chilli powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying

Ingredients for Manchurian Sauce:

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp finely chopped garlic
  • 1 tsp finely chopped ginger
  • 1-2 green chillies, finely chopped
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small capsicum, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tbsp cornflour mixed with 2 tbsp water

Instructions:

In a mixing bowl, combine shredded cabbage, gram flour, all-purpose flour, ginger paste, garlic paste, red chilli powder, and salt. Mix well and add a little water at a time to make a thick batter.

Heat oil for frying in a deep pan. Take small portions of the cabbage batter and shape them into small balls. Drop them gently into the hot oil and fry until they turn golden brown. Drain on a paper towel.

For the Manchurian sauce, heat oil in a wok or a pan. Add finely chopped garlic, ginger, and green chillies. Saute for a few seconds.

Add finely chopped onion and capsicum. Saute on high flame for a minute.

Add tomato ketchup, soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, salt, and water. Mix well and bring it to a boil.

In a small bowl, mix cornflour with water and add it to the sauce. Keep stirring until the sauce thickens.

Add fried cabbage balls to the sauce and mix well to coat each ball with the sauce.

Garnish with chopped spring onions and serve hot as a starter or with fried rice or noodles.

Enjoy your delicious homemade Cabbage Manchurian
